Citizens' reactions on Social Media for the presence of the actor Chrysanthos Chrysanthos on the socio-political platform “March of Change” took place.
Yesterday, the platform “March of Change” announced on its Facebook page that due to extraordinary professional obligations, Chrysanthos Chrysanthou is no longer a member. Of course, the reasons are clear and we must believe in the “March of Change” that it showed its democratic reflexes.
However, the president of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation, Charalambos Theopemptou, told politis.com.cy that he had warned the members of the platform about the possibility of being harmed by the presence of some people who are strongly expressed and have extreme positions in social and political issues.
In fact, he had expressed his disagreement with the inclusion of the name of the well-known actor in the announcement of the “March for Change” platform and as he told us, he was surprised when he realized that he was finally included.
Ecologists and Cyprus
Asked to comment on the fact that reactions are provoked on Social Media and due to the coexistence of environmentalists with people who have developed intense action in the reunification movement and therefore creates confusion regarding the positions expressed by the Movement and non-party candidates, Mr. Theopemptou stated that the terms of the cooperation have been agreed and among them is the respect for the positions of the Movement and the collaborating persons in the Cyprus issue.
The new president of the Ecologists was asked whether the collaboration with Theano Kalavana, Alexandra Attalidou and Melani Steliou heralds the change of the Movement's positions in the Cyprus issue. “In order to change the positions of the Movement, the problem of the coronavirus must be overcome,” he said. “The Central Committee of the Movement must convene,” he said, “and this is impossible to do in these circumstances.”
Mr. Theopemptou explained that the statute of the Ecologists' Movement does not provide for online party processes, like any other party. And one person cannot decide on the positions of a Movement, as he told us.
“In the autumn,” said Mr. Theopemptou, “when the party congress takes place, we will have the opportunity to make changes and cuts in the positions of the Movement. However, it is premature to say something about it and at this stage we have the parliamentary elections ahead of us “.
“At the moment,” he added, “we are facing serious problems as to the procedures to be followed in order for the ballot to be drawn up and it is impossible to gather people and hold a party meeting in these circumstances.”

The president of the Ecologists Movement revealed to us that the list of potential candidates will include lawyer Michalis Paraskeva.
As he said, “the Ecologists' Movement approached Michalis Paraskevas and responded positively”.
However, Mr. Theopemptou clarified that all the names for the province of Nicosia are on a list from which the final ballot paper will be prepared, if they are selected by the Nicosia provincial committee.
