Increased by 745 is the number of teachers, permanent and temporary, that the Ministry of Education will need, in order to meet the needs of the new school year. Most of the new hires, according to what is recorded in an explanatory note sent by the Ministry of Education to the Finance and Budget Committee of the Parliament, concern teachers who will work in secondary general education (414). The total number of teachers at all levels of education for the 2024-2025 school year is expected to reach 15,389, while last year it was 14,644.
7,200 in secondary education
< p >Of the 745 new positions requested by the Ministry of Education for the next school year, 414 are for teachers in secondary general education (high school, high school), with the number of teachers for the year 2024-2025 reaching 7,199, compared to 6,785 teachers employed in secondary education last year. Also, another 114 teachers are added to meet the needs in special education, with the number of special education teachers reaching 1,281 this year. At the same time, about 832 will be the teachers who will be invited to staff the Secondary Technical, Vocational, Education and Training Directorate. Compared to the previous school year, secondary technical teachers are expected to increase by 51, while another 60 teachers will be hired in pre-primary education. There the number of teachers will reach 1,033. As far as primary education is concerned, 106 new teachers will be hired, with the total number of permanent and part-time teachers exceeding 5,000, namely 5,044. Furthermore, according to what the Ministry of the Interior states in the note, “in the school year 2024-2025, 772 temporary part-time teachers are expected to be employed in the optional full-day schools, compared to 517 who were employed during the school year 2023-2024”.
As for why we need more than 700 new teachers, at all levels of education, the Ministry of Education points out that the 2024-2025 school year presents a series of peculiarities that are linked to statutory obligations of the Ministry of Education, existing as well as new educational policies , such as:
Extension of compulsory attendance in pre-primary education from 4 years.
Further reduction in the teaching time of principals in primary education.
Increase by 30 of full-day schools.
Introduction of vaccination periods in 3rd high school for financial literacy.
Expansion of the German teaching pilot program.
school year 2024-2025 another 242 positions will be added in elementary education, with the total number of attendants in elementary school reaching 1,175, while in secondary education, child attendants, after all 37 new hires, reach 400.
