Watch out for 23 dangerous products for the health and safety of consumers, the Consumer Protection Service (YPK) recommends, calling on sellers and consumers if they spot them to inform the Service .

Specifically, in its announcement, the Consumer Protection Service states that in the week that began on 29/04/24 (RAPEX – Report 18), 106 products that present a risk to the health and safety of consumers were notified to the System. These products were detected on the markets of various member states of the European Union (EU) and subsequently notified to the RAPEX Safety Gate System.

Of the 106 products, 23 were distributed for inspection purposes to the Consumer Protection Service. In addition, 43 were assigned to the Pharmaceutical Services Department, 14 to the Labor Inspection Department, 8 to the Electromechanical Services Department, 6 to the Road Transport Department, 6 to the Environment Department and 6 to Health Services.

It is noted that of the 23 products for which YPK is responsible, one has been initially identified by YPK in the Cyprus market, without having previously been identified in the other member countries, and has proceeded with its seizure and withdrawal. It is reported that the rest of the products are likely to be on the Cypriot market and directly threaten the health and safety of consumers and especially children. The Consumer Protection Service has already begun intensive checks of the market for any detection of the products, it says in its announcement.

The Consumer Protection Service calls on importers, distributors and sellers who may have such products to immediately stop making them available and notify the Service. It also calls on consumers, in case they own these products, to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. to the store where they purchased them, and at the same time to inform the seller about this.

It is noted that, according to the Consumer Protection Law of 2021, in case of purchasing an unsafe product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product, so that the product complies with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer has the right to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive back the full amount paid. It is recalled that the above rights are valid for a period of two years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the sole responsibility towards the consumer always rests with the final seller.

In in case the seller refuses to respond to the above rights of the consumer, the consumer is invited to submit his complaint in writing through the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
