Paphos is seriously threatening to leave a second “big” out of six!

Paphos is seriously threatening to leave a second

Leaving one of our big teams out of the top six is not something unprecedented. On the contrary, in the eight years (since 2013/14) when the playoffs are held in two groups of six, only three times (2016/17, 2017/18, 2019/20) the first group had all the Big-6 teams (AEL was left out twice and once AEK, Anorthosis and APOEL).

It is now quite visible, however, that this year's championship will be the first in which two of the “big ones” will not catch the… train of six and will not even claim a European ticket through the championship. And the cause is heard in the name… Paphos.

Already, it must be taken for granted that a Big-6 team will play in the second group, as along with Apollon and AEK, Aris seems to have a certain presence in the first. With the quality and the image that he brings out, his 27 points and the +10 from the seventh place (even with more race), with eight races pending until the end of the first phase, the world will have to turn upside down for to get out. It would be different if he was chased by a team, but since he has to be overtaken by four (and he is significantly different from all of them), the scenario is not so realistic.

The question in recent weeks has been whether either Paphos or Olympiacos are able to leave a second big team out of the top six and the Blues answered in the affirmative. After the resounding victory at the “AEK Arena”, the Paphian team climbed fourth, reached 21 points and is looking down on the other four greats, showing that it can threaten them very seriously.

Paphos still cannot be considered a favorite, as on the one hand the differences are not big (+2 from Anorthosis, +4 from Omonia, APOEL, +5 from Olympiakos and +6 from AEL), while on the other hand its pursuers (except the black and greens) have less fight (two Omonia). However, it is indisputable that after its victory over AEK and the new scoring data it created, it intensified the stress in Anorthosis, Omonia, APOEL and AEL, who until now knew that they would have to overcome another big team to enter the six but now they realize that it is very likely that they will have to overcome a second.
