The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, issued a written statement on the Paralympic Games.
On the occasion of the start of the Paralympic Games, in Paris , I wish our team every success, along with the certainty that once again they will become the worthy ambassadors of the Republic of Cyprus and in this top sports event.
Beyond the noble ambition for distinction, asked of them the events are to raise awareness for our fellow citizens with disabilities, to promote fair competition and to spread the Olympic ideal, through the fight against any form of discrimination.
The wishes of all of us accompany our sports team, the three-time Paralympic gold medalist in swimming, Karolina Pelendritou, Maria Markou in weightlifting and Viktoras Pentaras in athletics, but also the entire Cypriot delegation.
I wish to assure them that they will have the practical and substantial support of the state and that in the next period there will be announcements regarding the upgrading of the infrastructure to meet the needs of Paralympic sports in our country.
