The Plenary Session of the Parliament unanimously voted for an amendment to the law on Minimum Guaranteed Income, in order to avoid the suffering of people with permanent irreversible disability, who were called for reassessment of disability for the purpose of benefits. 44 deputies present voted in favor.

Also according to the amendment, the persons who make up the Disability Assessment Committee have the obligation to inform the applicant about their name and surname, as well as about their specialty and profession before each assessment.

It is clarified that, in case a person with a disability submits a new application for additional benefit or service due to the deterioration of his / her condition or due to other additional needs and for which the provision or service requires certification of his / her additional rights, the disability of that person is reassessed. .

The reassessment of the disability, in order to certify that the person with a disability continues to meet the criteria and conditions as a beneficiary, is done only in case new and sufficiently substantiated data come to the department through a written complaint which is submitted in writing.

EDEK MP Andreas Apostolou stated that he had asked for a postponement of the vote on this bill before Christmas, since there was a disagreement of the disability movement and after consultations with the relevant departments there was a small change that was supported by them. He added that it is very important for policies to have the consent and consent of people with disabilities.

Alexandra Attalidou, Member of Parliament for the Ecologists 'Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, said that the state must ensure the dignity of these people who often wait for a phone call to be answered for months and their dignity is often affected by the way the public service responds. He added that the state should educate all those involved in this area of social policy.

ELAM MP Sotiris Ioannou ELAM described the bill as very important, noting that there was a very offensive distortion of the law and people were experiencing humiliating processes. He also said that people with real problems are rejected from receiving benefits because their disability is moderate.

The MP of DIPA – Cooperation Marinos Mousiouttas said that the bill is in the right direction, since the anonymity of the medical councils that examine people with disabilities is removed and people who have irreversible disabilities do not need to repeat the psychedelic examination by the medical councils.

DIKO MP Christos Senekkis said that a similar bill that started on the initiative of MP Pavlos Mylonas was voted last year by Parliament but was referred to by the President of the Republic in the Supreme and thus came the relevant bill. He added that they support the law because it ends a distortion.

AKEL MP Andreas Kafkalias said that the Labor Committee made a great effort to reach an acceptable regulation that satisfies everyone and breaks the deadlock after the decision of the President of the Republic to refer to the law passed by Parliament last April. He added that the outcome is positive and AKEL is voting in favor, stating that they will monitor the implementation of this law in practice.

DISY MP Onoufrios Koula said that today a delicate issue is being resolved, a problem that everyone agrees on, so that our fellow citizens with permanent disabilities do not need to be re-examined by medical councils.
