Parliament: Verbal reprimand to MP Andreas Themistokleous for unethical behavior

The sentence of verbal reprimand was decided to be imposed on the independent MP, Andreas Themistokleous, by the Ethics Committee of the Parliament, for unethical behavior towards the parliamentary colleague of the Ecologists, Efi Xanthou.

We remind you that, last September, the parliamentary colleague and then deputy president of the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation, Efi Xanthou, denounced the MP – then ELAM Independent – Andreas Themistokleous for aggressively urging her to from the room where the Education Committee met.

According to the report, the ELAM MP initially made a personal attack on the president of the Movement of Ecologists, Mr. Charalambos Theopemptou. When Efi Xanthou asked and took the floor, then Mr. Themistokleous started shouting. Then, according to the complaints of the parliamentary colleague of the Ecologists, he moved towards her threateningly and with a gesture, as he says, which referred to a hand gesture.

Ms. Xanthou argued that, due to the repeated bad behaviors of this MP, he should be brought before the Speaker of Parliament as a matter of violation of the Code of Ethics.

Announcing the decision of the Ethics Committee, the chairman of the body, Zacharias Koulias, said that Mr. Themistokleous is absent today due to strict family reasons, but he was not aware of the announcement of the sentence today.
