Party leaders on a permanent tour for the elections

The Easter holidays can be a good occasion for party leaders to take a breather before falling headlong again for the last mile of the pre-election campaign. However, the pace has already picked up with the party leaders having been on a continuous electoral tour for days, sharing handshakes and smiles.

The electorate over time is becoming more and more demanding and difficult and the battle of his approach starts early and intensively. The nature of the upcoming elections is such that it makes their work even more difficult because on the one hand they are running for the percentages of the European elections and on the other hand they are rushing to attend next to candidate Mayors and Regional Governors.

&gt ;> The goal is twofold:

The first big bet for the parties is certainly the European elections. It is the ballot box through which they expect to measure strength. The percentages they will receive are the ones that will show where they are pressing today and will determine the course of the next day.

Attention now essentially turns to the rally. The scene as it is today is extremely fluid and in all parties there is an uncertainty as to how the electorate will ultimately move, how many will go to vote and how they will vote, as well as how the changes brought by the reform of the Local Self-government with the many ballots, will also affect the ballot box of the European elections.

On the one hand, DISY and AKEL are fighting for the lead, but on the other, neither of them can know for sure it will stop. Will it be a first with retention or an increase in percentages, or a first that will be accompanied by a significant loss of percentages that may also open the door to losing a seat?

At the same time, DIKO seems to be fighting hard to maintain double-digit percentages to be able to hope to maintain the 3rd position. ELAM and the percentages it can reach, is an unstable factor that indirectly affects the election result in various ways. The rallying rate of other parties and especially DISY certainly has its importance. From there  and beyond  The securing of a seat is considered a given, as things are today for ELAM.

As far as the other parties are concerned, the bet is certainly the percentage that the 5th place will reach. Two factors which, under certain conditions, can pave the way for them to the European Parliament. The most basic condition, of course, is the loss of a seat by the big ones.

Under these conditions, the attention of all parties is essentially directed to the gathering of the percentages of the percentages which is the key to achieving their goals.

In this context, the parties have already held provincial gatherings to present their candidates, MEPs and in some cases candidates for Local Government. Gatherings are also held at the local level, while the party leaders also take advantage of the gatherings they hold themselves as candidates for Local Government.

In the next period of time, the tour will intensify with new gatherings and visits to cities and villages. The door-to-door campaign will also be intensified with an emphasis on the organizational level.

Large final gatherings are also planned in the presence of representatives from the Eurogroups in which. ELAM already held a conference with the ECR   while last Saturday DIPA held an anniversary event for the 20 years of joining the EU, in the presence of President Christodoulidis.

>> In the focus… Limassol

A point of reference for different reasons was Limassol yesterday. In the first case, the Larnaca MP of DIKO Christos Orfanidis clashed with the Limassol Mayor candidate Yiannis Armeutis, who is supported by his party. He characterizes the statements of the candidate Mayor as irrelevant and frivolous for Larnaca in relation to what he said about the expansion of TEPAK in Larnaca and Paphos. “Based on the unfortunate statement of Mr. Armeutis, the parliamentarians of Larnaca, Paphos and the other provinces should not vote on the TEPAK budget because its headquarters are in Limassol,” he says, among other things.

In the second case, the Limassol provincial committee of the DISY, with its announcement, clarifies that its member and president of EVEL Andreas Tsouloftas has no family or other ties with the candidate Regional Governor Yiannis Tsouloftas. “We underline that for the president of the Limassol Provincial Self-Governing Organization, DISY Limassol supports the Independent Candidate Mr. Vassilis Dimitriadis,” the announcement states.
