A party of new councilors and liuzines has been re-established in the Presidential Palace, despite the coronavirus crisis.

The Ministry of Finance sent three letters in the form of an urgent letter to the Finance Committee of the Parliament, for the release of tens of thousands of euros, which are intended to cover the salaries of the new advisers of the President of the Republic and the market.

Dismissed… for duties performed by other services

The first letter concerns the former director of the Press Office of President Anastasiadis, Viktoras Papadopoulos, who visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As mentioned, V. Papadopoulos remains an advisor to President Anastasiadis and has an annual salary of 58,824 euros, excluding VAT. His new duties are “monitoring and reviewing the international press, with special reference to the Cyprus problem”, “contacting foreign media to promote the positions of the Republic of Cyprus”, conducting investigations and conducting investigations and matters requested of him by the President of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to facilitate their work and the performance of other related tasks assigned to him by the President of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

It is noted that the amount for which release is requested from the Finance Committee of the Parliament is 35 thousand euros and concerns Salary for the period July – December 2021.

It is also pointed out that his secondment from the Presidency to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was characterized as convenient, since many of the tasks assigned to him are already performed by other services. For example, the responsibility for the enlightenment has been taken over by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, while the Press and Information Office has been monitoring and handling the international press for years.

And he became a “Citizen Commissioner” in anticipation of the criminal investigation

The second letter concerns the former if. Spokesman, Panagiotis Sentonas, who became the Citizen's Commissioner to replace the former Commissioner for Volunteering and Non-Governmental Organizations, Giannakis Giannakis, for whom a criminal investigation is underway. his degree. As mentioned, his payroll amounts to 90,282 euros per year (including hosting allowance of 2,040 euros).

In this case as well, the amount for which release is requested concerns Salary for the period July – December 2021 and is 45,141 euros.

It is noted that with the removal of Victor Papadopoulos and Panagiotis Sentonas, other persons were appointed to the mentioned positions, as a result of which the number of the President's advisers increased even more.

They do not have enough cars…

The third letter concerns the purchase of another seven liuzines. As it is stated, “recently there is a need for the provision of three official vehicles for the needs of the presidency, with a total estimated cost of 69 thousand euros, including VAT (23 thousand euros each)”. It also states that “in addition there is a need to provide four vehicles for officials for the needs of the new Ministries of Social Welfare and Culture”.

It is noted that the letter for the louisies states that in documents that were sent to the Parliament, in 2019, “provision for an optional quantity of five additional vehicles” was included. It is even reported that this provision has already been utilized with the purchase of three more liuzines. Furthermore, the letter states that “in a communication made with the contractor, we have been informed that there is a VOLVO S90 vehicle ready for delivery, the price of which, based on the assignment made, amounts to 33,915 euros”.

1 million euros for PD advisers and ministers

It is noted that the advisers to the President and the ministers are appointed directly, without clear reasons and duties. It is also pointed out that the cost for political appointments exceeds 1 million euros per year, while many others are declared as employees in the public and wider public sector, but are seconded to the President and many ministries and also act as advisers. It is also pointed out that the consultants are paid by the state and consequently the taxpayers, but in many cases they participate in the election campaigns of DISY.

President Anastasiadis has about 15 advisers, while ministers and deputy ministers have at their disposal 62,000 euros for political appointments. In fact, everyone utilizes the amount that belongs to them, while some also make excesses which they justify with decisions of the Council of Ministers.

The total number of advisers to President Anastasiadis and the ministers exceeds 60. It is also noted that the number of Commissioners has reached 13, while there are also five deputy ministers.

It is noted that the issue of consultants has been discussed many times in the Finance Committee, as well as the Audit Committee of the Parliament. It is also pointed out that the issue of consultants was audited by the Audit Office, which showed many irregularities, such as the hiring of retirees and people who are connected to the media, but also people who were previously employed by private companies.

The three letters of the Ministry of Finance were submitted to the Parliament in the form of urgency and are expected to be discussed at a meeting of the Finance Committee on Monday, September 6.
