PASYKI denounces the attitude of the GNA administration against the Responsible Pathology Clinic – What it says in an announcement

The Pancypriot Union of Government Doctors (PA.SY.KI.) denounces the “unacceptable and vindictive” attitude of the administration of the Famagusta General Hospital, which “threatens with disciplinary sanctions” the head of the Pathological Clinic.

As stated in a PASYKI announcement, the doctor in question, fully aware of her duty, promptly informed the administration by letter that, due to tragic understaffing, it is not possible to cover the number of on-calls during the month of August of 2024.

Instead of addressing the problems, it is noted, the administration chose the path of “threats and revenge”. PA.SY.K.I. considers this act as the culmination of “mismanagement and disrespect” towards the medical staff.

“The decision to threaten the head of the Pathology Clinic is an unacceptable example of authoritarianism, but also of administrative incompetence”, it added.

PASYKI reports that this particular attitude is not only “reprehensible”, but also puts the operation of G. N. Famagusta and the health of the patients at “serious risk”.

PA.SY.K.I. notes that he has repeatedly denounced the serious problems facing the Famagusta General Hospital, such as the lack of medical staff, the overwork of the existing doctors and the long delays in serving patients. Despite our constant calls to discuss the issues and take measures, he continues, the administration remains inactive and unfortunately chooses to suppress the voices that highlight the reality.

“It is a shame for the largest provider of health services in Cyprus to behaves in this way towards the doctors who fight every day under extremely difficult conditions. The administration must assume its responsibilities and provide solutions to the problems of understaffing and mismanagement, instead of indulging in vindictive tactics”, it is added.

PA.SY.KI. requires immediate measures to strengthen the medical staff and improve working conditions. “We will not tolerate further undermining of professional integrity and the safety of doctors and patients. The health of the citizens cannot be under a regime of fear and insecurity”, concludes the announcement.
