Today, later tomorrow, the payment of the lump sum sponsorship to businesses, which was announced last November, begins. The payments will be made regardless of the developments today in the Parliament for the voting or not of the revised budget.
The one-time subsidy to cover operating expenses of specific companies was announced by the Ministry of Finance in November and was pending with the relevant information and approval of the EU. The basic condition for its payment was that the beneficiary companies were included in the special plans of the Ministry of Labor. November lump sum support mainly concerns nightclubs that have been closed since March and businesses hit in November 2020 by the local lockdown in Limassol and Paphos.

The appropriations for the payment of the subsidy, in order to cover the operating expenses of the companies, were in the budget and therefore the current developments in the Parliament do not affect the start of payments today or tomorrow. As the senior official of the Ministry of Labor, Andis Apostolou, noted in “F”, all the required checks have been completed and everything is ready for the payment of the sponsorship.
However, in contrast to the November lump sum sponsorship, allowances for the Ministry of Labor's special plans for December – which relate to subsidizing companies' payroll costs – will begin to be paid when the revised budget is approved. The new one-time support to companies and self-employed people to cover their operating expenses, announced this month by the Ministry of Finance, is also awaiting the approval of the budget.
