Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone conversation with US envoy for climate change John Kerry, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced late Saturday night.
“During their conversation, the issue of the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement was raised,” the statement said, adding that Lavrov “welcomed” the US return to the agreement.
Kerry and Lavrov “also stressed the need for the widest possible international co-operation” on climate change and agreed to “develop co-operation” within the Arctic Council, an intergovernmental forum attended by the eight countries bordering this area, whose strategic importance is growing.
