As stated by the Auditor General Odysseas Michaelidis, this matter is still unknown to most

With a two-hour informative presentation, the pilot program to integrate gender budgeting at the Audit Service began last week, according to the Cyprus Gender Budgeting Platform.

< p>As stated in a platform announcement, in his introductory speech the Auditor General Odysseas Michaelidismentioned that this issue is still unknown to most and the Audit Service wants to be informed about what gender budget includes, what role gender audit could play, how it is implemented and what tools are needed for integration. He also stated that the Audit Office will provide every assistance to make this pilot program a success.

In her own speech, Mary Pyrgou thanked Mr. Michaelidis on behalf of the Platform for giving the opportunity to all officials to attend this informative meeting. This decision, Ms. Pyrgou mentioned, pleasantly surprised her because there are not many who dare to consider new reforms, who dare to take risks, to open the door to the different, to train to face new challenges and who are not afraid the changes.

The announcement states that “Governments must stop focusing on the traditional ways of managing public expenditure, the tax methods of the past and microfinance, which have failed and start looking for more effective ways in the management of public resources and in the planning of the state budget”. Gender budgeting, it is noted, is a new proposal proposed by all global organizations.

The issue of gender budgeting will be discussed in depth during the European conference organized by the Cyprus Gender Budgeting Platform on the 22nd and February 23.
