The Plenary Session of the Parliament unanimously accepted the referral by the President of the Republic, of a law he voted on April 25 to exempt innovative small and medium-sized enterprises from the obligation to pay the fees and rights specified in regulations issued by the Council of Ministers pursuant to provisions of the Companies Law.

Among the reasons for the impeachment is the violation of EU law prohibiting state aid, the violation of Article 28 of the Constitution for the principle of equality and equal treatment and the violation of the Principle of Separation of Powers and articles 61, 167 of the Constitution.

In his statement, the Member of Parliament of DISY and Chairman of the Energy, Trade and Industry Committee Kyriakos Hatzigianni stated that the impeachment is accepted, however he disagreed on the grounds that it concerns a violation of competition because, as he said, it concerns start-ups. He noted that there must be a policy to support these businesses since Cyprus is last on the list of start-ups.

AKEL Member of Parliament Giorgos Loukaidis stated that although measures have been taken over time , much more is needed to support start-ups.
