The Cypriot Federation of Independent Trade Union Organizations (POASO) states in its statement that it accepts the proposal of the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance for the ATA.
It states that the proposal, as presented at a meeting on Thursday, includes an increase from June 2023 of the payment rate from 50% to 66.7% of the 2022 tariff, a reaffirmation of the 2017 agreement which refers to respect for the institution's philosophy and the start of intensive dialogue to reach a conclusion regarding the implementation of the institution until June 2025.
“Among the positive aspects of the proposal, we note the increase in ATA's rate of return by 17%, which demonstrates the government's position that the institution does not is going to be repealed but strengthened, while the previous agreement is also reaffirmed which expressly refers to the preservation of ATA's philosophy, which is none other than the protection and restoration of wages due to the erosion of their purchasing power by inflation,” it states.
POASO welcomes as a positive step the Minister's proposal for a final and comprehensive agreement for ATA, which will mainly preserve labor and social peace. At the same time, he believes that the proposal could have been bolder if it had clearly set a short timetable for the complete restoration of the institution so as to remove any trace of questioning or doubt about its timeless value in labor and society.
