Police mourn: 58-year-old Sergeant Stelios Panagiotou died due to Covid-19

Cyprus Police mourns the loss of an elected member, Sergeant Stelios Panagiotou , 58 years old. According to a relevant announcement, “he served in the Police with conscientiousness and dedication to duty, for 24 consecutive years, in various services and departments”.

This is the first death with a final cause of Covid-19 recorded in police force. The funeral will be held next Monday, August 23.

The following is the announcement of the Police:

The Cyprus Police sank into heavy mourning, with death of our distinguished colleague Sergeant Stelios Panagiotou, 58 years old , formerly from Larnaca.

Sergeant Stelios Panagiotou, served in the Police with conscientiousness and dedication to duty, for 24 consecutive years, in various services and departments, with many years of service in the Drug Control Service, while in recent years he served in the Larnaca AD.

The distinguished colleague had been infected by Covid 19 and had recently been treated by intubation at the Nicosia General Hospital. He is the first member of the Cyprus Police to lose his life due to the pandemic.

The leadership and the members of the Police express their deep sorrow and their sincere condolences to his family and relatives. Support for them, especially in these difficult times, is a given.

The funeral will be held next Monday, August 23, 2021, at 17.30 pm, from the Church of Agia Marina, in Mosfiloti.
