Since the assumption of the duties of the Chief of Police Stelios Papatheodoros, many issues have been promoted with the aim of protection, health, prosperity, as well as the guarantee of the rights of the members of the Police, always with the support of the Minister of Justice and Public Order. Police Spokesman Christos Andreou states in a written statement, adding that “any reports made to the media, to the contrary, are non-existent allegations”.
In particular, commenting on statements made to the media in recent days on the issue of private employment of members of the Police, Mr. Andreou states that the legal framework has recently been strengthened by setting safeguards that help issues related to unemployment and notes that “according to the amendment of the Legislation, the opinion of the Minister of Labor is also requested, so that the rights of other professionals are not violated”.
“This does not mean that members' justified requests for private employment will not be considered,” he added.
Regarding the salary scales of the Police, Mr. Andreou states that with the salary of November 2020 the process of promotion of 1,500 members of the Police was completed and adds that “in 25 cases where some problems occurred, these have been resolved and will be forwarded to the General Accounting for their payment to the affected members “.
Regarding the payment of overtime duties to members of the House, the Police Spokesperson states in his written statement that “with the actions of the Police and the support of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order we have managed to pay 100% for overtime duties.”
“For all overtime duties until November 2020, the relevant compensation has been paid, except in a few cases,” he notes.
It also states that “the delay in the payment of overtime work for only 8% of the total overtime duties in 2020 is due to the fact that the financial calendar year ends on November 15, but also to the delay in the adoption of the budget.”
He notes that, after the budget was voted, instructions were given to process their payment as soon as possible.
“The support of the leadership of the Police to its members is a given”, he states and adds that in an effort to provide motivation and raise the morale of the Police, the credit of an amount has already been launched which will be paid as a special allowance to Chief Constables and Archdioceses administrative tasks.
In addition, in the written statement, the Police Spokesperson states that “the working environment of our members is constantly being upgraded”.
Indicatively, he states that, in the last six months, there has been a general improvement of facilities and specifically in the Police Stations of Deryneia, Kliros, Lykavittos, Omorfitas, Peristeronas and Kokkinotrimithias.
He adds that improvement works have also been done in the new substation on Ledra Street, while projects are planned in other police stations such as that of Xylofagos and in general of all the building infrastructures of the Police.
Without ignoring, according to Mr. Andreou, the social role of the Police and “listening to the problems that exist in matters related to gender-based violence and domestic violence, with a decision of the Police leadership and the consent of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order , have been set up and operate in all Police Directorates, except Morfos, Cases of Investigation of Cases / Complaints of Domestic Violence. In ADE Morfou, the specific cases are undertaken by members who serve in the T.A.E. of the relevant Police Directorate “.
At the same time, Mr. Andreou states that “this is the first time that the recruitment procedures for police officers are carried out at such a rapid pace” and adds that “the recruitment of a number of police officers, firefighters and special police officers is expected by the end of March”.
He also states that “new positions have already been announced last November for the Police and the Fire Brigade, for which the interested parties will take written exams on 20/03/2021”.
At the same time, Mr. Andreou states that “efforts are being made to unfreeze other positions, with the contribution and support of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order”.
