The Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) informed CERA at the emergency meeting held on Monday morning that in order to deal with the problems that will arise from the fact that six steam electric units of the Dekelia Power Station will not be available to the Electricity System from December 14, for a total demand of 600MW and above, there will be a need to cut consumer load in the provinces of Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta.
Announcement of the DSMK states that relevant information was received from the EAC Production Division and therefore it is expected that challenges will be created regarding the adequacy of production to meet demand, the ability of the Transmission System to channel energy to urban centers and the absorption of decentralized electricity generation from Renewable Energy Sources (RES).
To address the above problems and ensure the reliability of the Electric System, which depends on the load demand that is directly linked to the weather conditions and the behavior of the consumer public, as well as to avoid causing a Total Blackout of the Electric System , the TSMC is obliged to apply measures accordingly, it is added.
Specifically, it is stated that for a total demand of 600MW and above, there will be a need to cut consumer load in the provinces of Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta.
He points out that the level of reserves of the Electric System will be reduced and therefore, any power generation plant failure will lead to further reductions in consumer load on a Pan-Cyprus basis.
He also notes that the  ;absorbability of decentralized power generation from RES will also be reduced, therefore, there will be systematically increased cuts in the power produced by RES.
He also emphasizes that in case of variation of any parameters that affect the reliable operation of the Electric System, such as extreme weather conditions, extraordinary incidents and breakdowns, they will lead to more unfavorable conditions for its users Electrical System, meters.
