In his greeting at the opening of the Anglophone Cultural Center, the President of the Republic mentioned that the government has succeeded in overturning the negative immigration balance

Through the actions of the government, we managed to reduce the arrivals of immigrants and to increase the returns, overturning the negative balance that existed in recent years, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, said on Thursday night, adding that from the first day of taking over the government, a specific strategy is being implemented, so that Cyprus stops it is considered an attractive destination.

In his greeting at the opening of the English Cultural Center, the President said that he is aware of the challenges faced by the Community and the wider region, resulting from the operation of immigrant accommodation facilities.

“We are working to address these challenges and take advantage of opportunities that present themselves for the benefit of local residents,” he said.

For this reason, he continued, not only the requests of the English women but also the requests of the other communities were recorded, adding that the aim is to include them in a special development plan for the wider area, which, among other things, will include upgrading the road network, strengthening school units , expansion of security measures, creation of public recreational areas and upgraded housing planning.

For the recommendations of the Community Council concerning the security of the area, such as the strengthening of the police, special arrangements for the movement of residents and others, the The President said that he has discussed them with the Deputy Minister of Immigration and they are already included in the plans of the Deputy Ministry and their implementation begins immediately.

Referring to the general issue of immigration, President Christodoulidis said that from the first day of assuming the responsibility of governing the country, a specific strategy is being implemented so that our country ceases to be considered an attractive destination.

The results, he continued. “they confirm the correctness of our policy”, while at the same time expressing satisfaction because as he explained talking to residents of the area and in several other areas, they convey to him that they see the results of this policy.

About the Anglican Cultural Center, the President said that this gives impetus to both the Community and the wider region.

“The Cultural Center has a long history and is an ornament for the Anglican, since it has always served the Community as a place for the cultivation of the spirit, initially under the direction of the Church of Agia Marina and later as the Primary School and the English Kindergarten”, said the President.

He congratulated the ‘Province of Larnaca Odysseas Hatzistefanos and stated that the Provincial Administration very correctly included the reconstruction of the building and its transformation into a Cultural Center in its priorities, allocating to cover the construction works an amount of 211 thousand euros from the total of the 250 thousand euros that the project cost.

He stated that the traditional character of the building and the modern infrastructure coexist harmoniously, adding that the Cultural Center has all the resources to function as a center for cultural, social and recreational activities, with multiple benefits for residents and visitors, but especially for the youth of the wider region.

He noted that one of the main objectives of the Center's operation is to encourage young people to be creative and to offer a healthy option for their active daily employment and entertainment.

He said that the creation of the library at the Center was made possible after the noble donation of the personal collection of Professor Savvas Sakkadas, President of AHEPA Larnaca, in memory of his student Jason Yasoumi from Anglisides.

The library, said President, he will be used by the public as a carrier of knowledge and values and a custodian of our spiritual and cultural heritage, forever leaving as a guiding beacon Jason's love for Letters and Education.

As the President of the Republic said, the Cultural Center and a multitude of other smaller or larger development projects that are being launched or implemented in the Communities of the region, have a special value and importance in the context of the new form of Local Government.

He mentioned also that a holistic approach is implemented for housing, in the context of which all Ministries and Deputy Ministries implement targeted actions of added value specifically for the countryside.

The President referred to the housing plans for the revitalization of Rural Areas, which have as their central objective the attraction of a new population, mainly young families, to the villages.

President Christodoulidis urged young people and those who are now starting their families to take advantage of the very attractive housing plans which are constantly evaluated.

Referring to the efforts made by the Anglisido Community Council to acquire adjacent plots for the creation of a Square, which is, as he said, a perennial request, he assured that the State will is next to the Council for the implementation of the project.

He added that the cooperation of the central State and the local authority yields positive results.
