The Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca – Famagusta sentenced a 38-year-old man to two years in prison yesterday, after finding him guilty, in relation to a case involving illegal entry into the Republic, a prohibited immigrant, and transportation persons by waterway with an unsafe and overloaded boat.
The 38-year-old was arrested by members of the Police, in the context of an investigation into a case of helping third-country nationals to enter the Republic, in relation to the arrival with sea vessel, 16 migrants, in the area of free Famagusta, on July 25, 2022.
According to information that had emerged during the police examinations, the 38-year-old was the navigator of the sea vessel. As it was established from the tests carried out to verify his details, he had previously resided in the Republic and had been declared a prohibited immigrant.
The case had been investigated by the TAE of Famagusta.
