The eight convicts who were arrested for the brutal murder of their Turkish Cypriot fellow inmate in the Central Prisons tortured their victim for hours.

The closed circuit of the penitentiary recorded all their movements, from the victim's entry into the death cell, until he was transported in a sheet to his cell, where he was later found dead.

From the preliminary inspection of the closed monitoring circuits of the Central Prisons, and specifically of the wing where the murder was committed, all the movements of the suspects before the heinous crime were established. /p>

&# 39? As is always evident from the closed circuit monitoring, the 1st suspect after leaving the death cell, checked his hands in an intense manner, while during the arrest he had visible abrasions on his body, without wanting to be examined.

Another two of the eight suspects also suffered severe bruises.

The tests show that the particular convicts beat the 41-year-old to death, also using a heavy object, possibly a piece of wood or a pipe.

Police investigations will continue by taking statements and conducting tests to identify evidence. .

The case under investigation concerns very serious crimes, which carry the penalty of life imprisonment. Therefore, the judicial authorities deemed it reasonable to issue a detention order to facilitate the investigations.

According to what the investigator told the Court today, 32 statements have been taken so far and 110 more are expected to be taken.

Statements will still be taken from all the prisoners who are in the ward where the events occurred, from prison medical staff but also prison guards.

So far, data has been received from a large number of closed surveillance circuits which will be evaluated, while tests will be carried out to identify the evidence that is being sought and related to the commission of the offense and will be sent for scientific tests.

With the instructions of the management of Prisons, all evidence and incidents that may be related to the cause of the death of the 41-year-old and whether [control regulations] were followed by the staff members who were on duty are being investigated. From the investigations, any responsibilities of the staff members are evaluated and it is expected that availability notices will be submitted immediately for those against whom responsibilities arise.
