The Department of Electro-Mechanical Services announces that the mobile phone deactivation system in the Central Jails has been installed since 2020 and has been operating until today, disabling, among other things, 3G and 4G technologies within the fenced area of the prisons .
With the development of technology and the implementation of 5G by mobile phone companies, the Department of Electromechanical Services proceeded to enter into a contract with the Contractor company to upgrade the existing system, in order to additionally disable the technology 5G within the fenced area of the prisons.
At this stage, the Contractor company has installed the necessary equipment and is in the final stage of upgrading the system and carrying out the necessary specialized special arrangements, which include, in some points and the existing functions of disabling 3G and 4G technologies.
The Friday On 2 December 2022, the receiving committee on site inspection identified sections within the fenced area of the central prisons where the new arrangements made affected, in some places, the system and made specific indications to the Contractor company to proceed with additional new arrangements for the committee to repeat the audit on December 16, 2022.
