The written statement of the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis on the second phase of the Turkish invasion

The no solution is not a solution emphasizes, among other things, in a statement by the President of the Republic, on the occasion of today's black anniversary of the second phase of the Turkish invasion.

“The only goal is the successful conclusion of the effort that has been ongoing for the last few months by the UN Secretary-General, as a result of the recognition of our clear political will by the international community, to solve the problem”, notes the president.

    This is the statement:

Today marks 50 years since the last day of the second phase of Turkey's barbaric invasion that forcibly divided Cyprus, occupied it, expelled thousands of our compatriots and tragically determined the future of Cyprus, its people and its modern history.

Half a century later, we condemn the crime in Cyprus, the ongoing occupation and We Don't Forget.

We honor and commemorate the fallen, the missing, the heroically fighting, the refugee women and children.

At the same time, we know very well that justice will only come through the comprehensive resolution of the Cyprus issue, the liberation , of reunification, when real conditions of peace and security prevail in Cyprus. The current state of affairs is not and cannot be the future of Cyprus and our children. No solution is not a solution. We do not compromise with the occupation, we remain militantly optimistic for a reunified Cyprus as we deserve.

Since the first day of taking office, I have been working tirelessly to break the deadlock and resume talks, with the aim of resolving of Cyprus as soon as possible. The only goal is the successful conclusion of the effort that has been ongoing for the last few months by the UN Secretary-General, as a result of the recognition of our clear political will by the international community, to solve the problem.

Any challenges and uncompromising positions should not discourage us. On the contrary, they make us more persistent, so that we work more persistently and methodically, taking advantage of every opportunity and creating conditions and opportunities.

I am ready to come even tomorrow to the dialogue table, on the basis of the agreed framework to search for a solution , of the negotiated acquis and certainly of the principles and values of the EU, of which Cyprus is a member state and will continue to be after the solution of the Cyprus issue.

The challenges that exist within the framework of the efforts to resolve the Cypriots can be dealt with through the European acquis which ensures the interests and basic freedoms of all European citizens.

In this effort for the success of our struggle, a necessary condition is the existence of a strong internal front and the continuous efforts for a strong Republic of Cyprus, prosperous and prosperous.
