The EastMed pipeline has been approved by the EU. The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, mentions in a written statement as a public benefit project.

In particular, on the occasion of what is said about the construction of the gas pipeline from the Eastern Mediterranean basin to the European Union (EastMed), the President stated the following:
(a) The political will and decision of the three states, Greece, Israel and Cyprus, was taken on the condition of economic viability studies, submarine morphologies that would make possible a similar project always in relation to the environmental impact.
(b) The EastMed pipeline has been approved by the EU. as a public benefit project, as it contributes to Europe's energy security, which is why the cost of studies was borne by the European funds.
(c) It is sad because some people are happy because the execution of the project is immediately canceled.
The Governments of the countries involved as well as the European Union have worked out, in case the project is considered impossible for any reason, alternative solutions.
(d) The energy plans of the Republic of Cyprus will be implemented in the most appropriate way, for the benefit of the well-meaning interest of the people of Cyprus and the friends of cooperating states.
