The creation of a multi-thematic casino resort was one of the goals of the government, stated the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, on Monday evening, adding that the project ushers in a new era for our country.
According to an announcement by the company Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, President Anastasiades as well as honored guests had the opportunity to tour the City of Dreams Mediterranean, during a reception hosted by the company's President and CEO Lawrence Ho and CNS Group CEO Melis Siakolas, ahead of the opening of the first European multi-themed resort, to be held in the second quarter of the year.
During the event, the PtD and the rest of the guests were given a tour of the luxurious facilities of the multi-thematic resort and saw its architectural design up close, which, as the announcement states, “makes it a landmark in the wider region, and beyond”. Guests also sampled Melco's culinary creations, which have been awarded several Michelin stars.
In a speech during the event, it is added, President Anastasiades expressed his thanks to the consortium Melco and CNS and their managing directors, pointing out that their decision to invest in City of Dreams Mediterranean is a vote of confidence in Cyprus and recognition of the prospects and possibilities that our country has in the tourism sector and beyond.
“The creation of a multi-thematic resort was one of the government's goals, as we knew that its creation would contribute to enriching our tourist product, increasing tourist arrivals and creating new jobs, with obvious benefits for the Cypriot economy.” he said.
He added, that “it would not be an exaggeration to say that the casino is ushering in a new era for our country, opening up new perspectives that strengthen its position on the international tourist map” and completed by saying that “major development projects, such as the City of Dreams Mediterranean, are breathing projects and a point of reference for the whole place”.
For his part, the President and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Lawrence Ho, spoke about his company's vision to create an authentic and unique project, which is an architectural gem and is fully in harmony with its environment, country and people.
“Nearly five years ago, we gathered in this beautiful place to lay the foundation stone of this ambitious project. Today, we are one step before the beginning of a new era for Cyprus, its tourism, but also its economy”, said Mr. Ho and expressed the hope “to make the City of Dreams Mediterranean the flagship of the island's tourism product and one of the main contributors to the economic development of Cyprus”.
PtD was presented with an honorary plaque, while Mr. Ho also presented an inscription, which was placed in the resort area, dedicated to President Anastasiades.
The announcement recalls that the largest multi-themed resort in Europe will offer services that will satisfy every taste, having a fourteen-story luxury hotel with 500 rooms and suites, brand name shops designers, iconic architecture, art, sports facilities, outdoor amphitheater, adventure park for all ages, convention and exhibition spaces, dining venues as well as casinos.
