No immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza, says President – “We are working to implement the maritime humanitarian corridor”

There should be immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza, said the President of the Republic Nikos on Monday evening Christodoulidis.

Asked by journalists on the sidelines of the opening of the Deryneia Municipal Library, about the meeting that had earlier today in Nicosia with the UN Coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, the President said that we are working together to implement the maritime humanitarian corridor from Cyprus to Gaza.

He added that it is not the only option and that there are other options, “but considering the serious humanitarian needs, there should be immediate humanitarian assistance”.

We welcome the fact that (the Coordinator) was in Cyprus today, she will go to Israel, she will then inform the Secretary General and we hope that soon those data will be created that will allow the maritime humanitarian corridor to function normally, he said.

To a journalist's observation that the needs of the population in Gaza are increasing, the President of the Republic replied: “exactly and there should not be any political motives that to make it difficult to implement such options”.

He noted that the criterion that should judge any options that exist, such as the Cyprus proposal, are the needs of the people in Gaza, which day by day are clearly more.

In another question he said that we are in cooperation with Britain and with the country where the representative of the Secretary General comes from and with the Netherlands, the European Union in general, and all the states that can contribute in this direction.
