“Following today's announcement of the board of directors of APOEL, I would like to address the fans of the team and the fans in general.
When on January 6 I accepted the offer to take over as APOEL coach, I was fully aware of the facts. The team was in the most difficult scoring and competitive situation of the last decades, with the risk of relegation visible, facing serious problems and questioning everything. I believed, however, that the team could recover and rebuild on the right foundations. Besides, I could not refuse help to the team with which I am associated with many great successes.
Leaving behind us last year, we tried to rebuild the team, despite the objective difficulties that existed. We have started an effort that must continue regardless of my departure.
I fully understand how much the result hurt and how disappointing was the team's performance in the first match of this year, for which I took responsibility.
I am still convinced that the team can come back when the transfer planning is completed. But it will take patience, calm and support from everyone.
I leave early, but the decision of the administration is respected. However, I believe that with her attitude in the last few days, she showed a lack of respect for my person and my history in the team.
Nevertheless, I keep the positives and wish everyone good luck. I would like to thank all the staff of Archangelos for the excellent cooperation and especially the team manager George Savvidis.
I thank the people of APOEL for the support and especially the children of PAN.SYFI, who I hope will return to the stadium soon “.
