Students of K’ of Limassol Primary School, Agios Panteleimon, as they have been participating in a series of activities in recent days, culminating in today's participation in a wheelchair basketball game.

The actions, which are organized from time to time in various primary and secondary schools, on the occasion of the International Day of the Disabled, on December 3, aim on the one hand to raise awareness and inform children and on the other hand, to give them the opportunity to experience for themselves what it means to be a person with a disability, the school teacher and member of the Pancypriot Organization of Persons with Disabilities, Christiana Grigoriou, told KYPE.

«The children were invited to feel what it is like to be blind, since they followed blindfolded instructions, they were asked to feel what it's like to not have some fingers and have to write, they watched alternative ways of communication and learned Christmas songs in sign language, he added.

Amea, Mrs. Grigoriou pointed out, must enjoy acceptance, inclusion in society and respect and this is what we try to pass on to our young men and women.

Today, the students of K’ of the Limassol Elementary School participated in a wheelchair basketball match, together with athletes from the teams of Apollo and Hephaistos, where they lived the experience of a disabled person in a wheelchair.

Our goal is to raise awareness of the future of our country, which is our children, moreover, the President of the Ifaistos team, Michalis Pavlidis, told KYPE, adding that these actions started in recent years and will continue.

«The children try the sport of basketball in a wheelchair and we answer their questions about general disability issues”, he said and called on other schools to be more actively involved in such actions.

Finally, he indicated that in the sport of wheelchair basketball, any person with any disabilities can participate. form of disability and not only PWD in a wheelchair.
