The importance of the cooperation of all sides with the Investigative Committee for Missing Persons (DIA) in Cyprus was pointed out by the British Minister for Europe Leo Doherty responding to a parliamentary question by Sir Roger Gale.
The pro-Cypriot Conservative MP for North Thanet has submitted a written question to the Secretary of State requesting to be informed strong> whether he will discuss with his Turkish counterpart the resolution of the issue of missing persons as a consequence of the 1974 invasion.
Sir Roger also invited the British Foreign Secretary to discuss more generally with his counterpart the role that Turkey could play in providing access to military sites for the exhumation of remains and in releasing information from military archives.
Undertaking to respond on behalf of his political superior Mr. Doherty noted the UK's “close contact” with the IAEA.
