The Covid-19 pandemic, while demonstrating the need for reliable information produced by professional journalists, has also accelerated pre-existing structural problems that these guidelines seek to address. </p> <p> <strong> </strong> <strong> Favorable measures for the Media </strong> </p> <p>The Recommendation encourages States to adopt favorable regulatory and fiscal measures for the media, including immediate support where appropriate, while strengthening strong safeguards to protect media independence. These measures should target different types of media, whether traditional or digital, and include commercial media, public media, community media and freelance journalists. </p> <p>In addition, States should promote fair and transparent market conditions that allow media organizations to compete more fairly with major online advertising platforms and promote fair working conditions in the media. </p> <p> < strong> Promoting quality content </strong> </p> <p> In order to enhance public engagement with quality multimedia content, the Recommendation promotes quality content ranking on online platforms, especially search engines and social media, while introducing independent oversight of the platform's distribution practices. It also calls for support for data control initiatives, good practices in transparency of reporting procedures and grievance redressal mechanisms. </p> <p> Finally, the Recommendation encourages states to work with civil society, the media and other stakeholders to take initiatives for media education and information and provide them with funding. as well as to facilitate the regular training of journalists. </p> <p><noindex></p> <div class=Source: politis.com.cy
