The repair and restoration works of the propylaea of the historic stadium were completed (albeit with a delay of a few months) and yesterday Sunday the inauguration took place, and their official delivery was made by the president of KOA, Andreas Michailidis, in the presence of local authorities.
The work done in recent months by a private company concerned the maintenance and tidiness of the existing main entrance and the surrounding area, which had been severely damaged over time and presented a bad image. The propylaea of the old GSZ are built in neoclassical style from stone of the area in their entirety and through their maintenance works, important architectural elements of the time that were built emerged.
The works carried out aimed at cleaning, maintenance and repair of the existing stonework, restoration of all damaged decorative masonry elements, repair and waterproofing of the double roof, removal and replacement of the ceiling, removal of the roof and removal of the roof. of the stairs, the repair of the substrate, as well as the installation of new marbles and the maintenance of the metal doors of the propylaea. Electrical works were also carried out, special lighting was installed on the sidewalk, while landscaping works were also carried out. While it was initially announced that the duration of the renovation work on the propylaea of the old GSZ would be about four months and that the project would be completed by the end of 2021, however, there was a delay of about three months. The renovation of the propylaea of the old GSZ brings back beautiful and nostalgic memories to the fans, especially of a certain age, since generations of Larnaca people (and not only) passed through these propylaea in order to enter the picturesque stadium to attend a football match or other sporting event. From the early 1930s until the mid-1980s, this stadium was used as the headquarters of the Larnaca unions, until the operation of the new GSZ. In recent years the old GSZ has been operating as a sports venue for the public and is used by football academies.
