The concern for the increase of the number of cases and the percentage of positivity was expressed during the teleconference by the Minister of Health Mr. Konstantinos Ioannou and the members of the Advisory Scientific Committee for the coronavirus.
According to the positions expressed by the epidemiological team, the guide for the next steps is the adequacy and the ability of the Health System to respond. The analysis of the epidemiological data shows that at this stage the increase in cases does not affect the Health System, while from the available data it seems that the number of hospitalizations for serious cases has decreased. To a significant extent, the discharge of the Health System is due to the vaccination coverage of the elderly, who have an increased risk of serious illness.
Finally, the meeting did not discuss the de-escalation of measures, as it is expected that the epidemiological data will be re-evaluated next week.
