Resolution of 59 Presidents of Greek Chambers supports Famagusta

The Presidents of the 59 Chambers of Greece and the 13 Regional Councils of the Regional Council Of Greece.

The resolution

As mentioned in the resolution, the Presidents of the Chambers of Greece:

· They characterize as illegal the actions of Turkey and the pseudo-state of the occupiers, in the enclosed area of the city of Famagusta, which aim at the creation of new executions.

· Strongly support the proposal of E.B.E. Famagusta for the surrender of the city under the United Nations Administration and the opening of the office of the Chamber of Famagusta in the city of Famagusta, as a move to create favorable conditions for cooperation between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot side that will contribute to achieving a comprehensive sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem .

· They are in favor of the resumption of a creative dialogue for the settlement of the Cyprus problem and the reunification of Cyprus on the basis of the relevant decisions of the United Nations and the acquis communautaire.

Borrell Statement

The statement of Mr. Borrell, which is unequivocally adopted and supported by the Chambers of Greece, is the following:

“The EU unequivocally condemned the unilateral actions of Turkey and the unacceptable announcements made, on July 20, 2021, by the President of Turkey and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, regarding the further opening of the enclave of Varos.

The EU has repeatedly stressed the need to avoid unilateral actions in violation of international law and new challenges, which could cause tensions on the island and undermine ongoing efforts to find common ground between the parties, with a view to its permanent settlement. Cyprus issue, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UN).

Statement by the president of EBE Famagusta

The President of the Chamber of Famagusta, Augustinos Papathomas, expressed his great emotion and thanks to his brother Piraeus Chamber, the President of Vassilis Korkidis and all the Chambers of Greece for their important and strong support in our struggle to return to the occupied territories.

We hope that the EU will remain fully committed to the overall settlement of the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, in accordance with the relevant decisions of the Security Council, the UN and the acquis and principles on which the EU is based. The Famagusta Chamber will continue to support the efforts of the EU and the UN Secretary General.
