Resumption of EU-Turkey dialogue positive, despite disagreements, says Erhiurman – What the chairman of the Republican Turkish Party says
In his post on social media, the chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhiurman commented positively on the invitation of Turkey to the Informal Meeting of EU Foreign Ministers after five years.
Erhiurman reported that Turkey assessed the invitation as a positive development and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan participated in the meeting. “Both the invitation and the statements of the EU clearly demonstrate that the EU attaches importance to the dialogue with Turkey. Turkey has a similar approach,” he said.
However, Erhiurman also pointed out the different approaches of the two sides to the Cyprus problem. “In the statements of the EU, it is underlined that the Cyprus issue is an important chapter in the relations with Turkey. From Turkey's side, the statements suggest that such a connection is not considered correct,” he noted.
Despite the disagreements, Erhiorman expressed his satisfaction with the resumption of dialogue. “Finally, after five years, an important dialogue door has been opened and both sides are satisfied with its initiation. Dialogue is always good,” he concluded.
