Gold Sponsor of the Cyprus Olympic Committee continues to support rising sports talents
In the framework of the Sponsorship cooperation between them, a delegation of the Cyprus Olympic Committee led by President George Chrysostomou visited the headquarters of the Bank of Cyprus, Gold Sponsor of the KOE, with the aim of getting to know the athletes who have joined the “Young Athletes Award Scheme under 18 years old, as rising talents in sports”. This is a project established by the Bank of Cyprus in recent years with the aim of developing cooperation with young sportsmen and women, and offering them a symbolic amount.
The delegation of the Cyprus Olympic Committee was accompanied by six of the seven athletes, from seven different sports, who joined the plan for 2024, Markos Kontopoulos (Shooting), Emilios Poeros (Sailing), Raffaella Aristotelous (Athletics) Michaeldimi Prokopiou (Swimming), Alexandros Emmanuilidis (Fencing) Alexandros Konstantinou (Triathlon). Skiing athlete Stefania Yakovleva, who these days is participating in the 4th Winter Youth Olympic Games held in Korea, was absent.
Present at the meeting on behalf of the Bank of Cyprus were Irini Grigoriou (Executive Director of the Human Resources & of Transformation), Dimitris Dimitriou (Director of Risk Management), Savvas Kounnos (Director of Corporate Affairs), Elli Ioannidou (Director of Corporate Social Responsibility) and from KOE the Administrative Officer Mr. Georgios Korellis.
Addressing the athletes, Ms. Ioannidou welcomed all the guests and noted that following the suggestion of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, the Bank is awarding for this year seven sportsmen and women athletes from the same number of sports Federations to reward them for their successes so far: “We deliver to you a symbolic amount as a reward for your efforts so far, with the wishes of the Bank of Cyprus for a good career and why not in four years to see you at the next Olympic Games.”
The president of KOE, Georgios Chrysostomou, thanked the Bank of Cyprus and especially the Managing Director Panikos Nikolaou for the trust he has shown in the Cyprus Olympic Committee, noting the following: “Through this cooperation, the common goals and visions we have are highlighted, and which we can implement primarily through athletes. We have mentioned many times in the past and we repeat that the priority is not the first place, but through the behavior of the athletes inside and outside the arenas to promote the principles and values of Olympism, and at the same time to be our ambassadors for a better society”.
Irini Grigoriou, expressing her warm congratulations on behalf of all the Bank's staff, addressing the athletes said that everyone understands the commitment, the difficulty, and the time they spend every day, sacrificing many other things.
Dimitris Dimitriou pointed out that the characteristics that athletes develop, such as consistency in training, commitment, and attention to detail, are qualities that are recognized and characteristics that each of us needs to succeed in any area of our lives.< /p>
For their part, the athletes thanked for their choice, and described their daily life as shaped by their involvement in sports, the positive things it offers them as well as the difficulties they face, noting at the same time that they will try to show themselves worthy of the trust with which both the Cyprus Olympic Committee and the Bank of Cyprus have surrounded them.
