A long exchange of gunfire took place on Friday, February 11, in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The incident, in which eight people were killed, involved police forces and suspected drug traffickers.
Around 5 a.m. Friday, police cordoned off the Vila Cruzeiro favela, located in the northern part of the city, with a warrant for the arrest of a man accused of drug trafficking. An exchange of gunfire followed, lasting about three hours.
