Road safety messages are coming to alcohol and car ads

The passing of the bill for the mandatory inclusion of messages on road safety issues, in advertisements related to the purchase of vehicles and the consumption of alcohol, was welcomed by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Yannis Karousos, stating that the first ministerial decree will be issued in January. which will provide the requirements and relevant details for viewing the messages.

As stated in a Ministry announcement, Mr. Karousos stated that the bill is "an excellent tool, which we will use to promote, promote and inform road safety issues", explaining that in every advertisement, television, radio, digital, print or another, which is related to the purchase of vehicles and the consumption of alcohol, will necessarily include a relevant message about road safety.

"In this way, we are exponentially multiplying our exposure to road safety", he noted, mentioning that the first decree will be issued in January, after a relevant consultation in December. The Minister thanked the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Marino Miusioutta, and its members for the cooperation and promotion of the bill.

As the Ministry of Transport explains in its announcement, according to the amending bill the Minister may, by decree published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, establish requirements for the purposes of improving road safety, by including communication messages in vehicle sales promotions or advertisements relating to the consumption of alcohol or to determine other ways of including such communication messages in advertisements for the purchase of vehicles or advertisements relating to  in alcohol consumption. It is noted that, based on the Law, the obligation to include the messages rests with the person on whose behalf the product is promoted.

In its announcement, the Ministry also states that, in addition to the said bill, also promotes other road safety related legislation, such as the installation of the photo-marking system, the institution of road safety ambassadors, the grant schemes for motorcyclists' protective equipment, the promotion of the technical inspection for motorbikes, the grant scheme for child seats for buses, the passage of the law on electric scooters and the completion of relevant bills for driving schools and instructors, as well as the regulations for mandatory recording and declaration in the history of each vehicle of road collision damage.
