The well-known athletics coach, Konstantinos Statelakos, died in a fatal car accident strong> as it became known through a post by the Cyprus Amateur Athletics Federation.

Specifically the post reads: “TRAGIC:KONSTANTINOS STATHELAKOS HAS PASSED AWAY! Our national hurling coach was training with his team in Potchefstroom, South Africa on the morning of February 1, 2024he lost control of his car, resulting in his death in the crash! The tough role of identifying Kostas Statelakos was played by the athletes of Apostolos Parellis and Alexandros Poursanidis, who confirmed the tragic event.
KOEAS on hearing this incredible story tragic news contacted the Embassy of Cyprus in South Africa, in order to arrange the necessary actions for the transfer of the body of our beloved Kostas to Cyprus,in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. KOEAS, which will cover all the funeral expenses, declares five days of mourning in memory of Kostas Statelakos and will announce details later.
Kostas Statelakos was born on December 30, 1987 in Lamia and was an athlete in the hammer throw, competing with the colors of Greece and Cyprus, having married our champion in the same event Skevi Theodorou, with whom they had twin daughters.In fact, a few days ago they celebrated their daughters third birthday as a family! He is the holder of the Cypriot world record in the hammer throw with 75.32m, since May 16, 2015. In recent years, he has taken over as the federal throwing coach, leading his athletes to huge successes and continuous presence in the biggest sporting events.
