Sadness: Takis Gavrielidis has passed away

Sadness was spread by the news of the death of Takis Gavrielides. Among other things, he was the former President of OELMEK and a member of the Board of Directors of TEPAK.

The news was announced by Christos Iakovou with a post on Facebook.

In particular, he states, "For the pain created by the loss of a special friend, there are no words of comfort. Perhaps there is nothing but sadness for the one who is gone. Have a good trip, my good friend Takis Gavrielidis, to the open horizons you always gazed upon. I know I won't comfort you because no one can do that. All I wish is that the people who loved you will remember you forever».

Takis Gavrielidis was born on August 10, 1945 in Lania, Limassol district. He studied at Lania Primary School and graduated from Laniteo High School in Limassol. After completing his military service, he studied at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and obtained a physics degree. Other studies followed along the way. He graduated from the Department of Public Law and Political Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and also from the Law Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

He married Marina Sokratous and together they had 2 children, Nikolas and Georgina. < /p>

Professor

In Cyprus he worked as a teacher in various Lyceums and mainly in Laniteo Gymnasium. From Secondary Education, he retired as a High School Principal. He was also President of the Trade Union Organization of Secondary Education Teachers, OELMEK in December 2001 and Vice President of the Union of Cypriot Physicists. In addition:

Wrote Physics books for high school students, with a positive orientation, at the Ministry of Education. , Sudbury Canada, Canberra Australia, Oslo Norway, Sofia Bulgaria, Antalya Turkey).
He participated as the head of OELMEK in European and International Conferences, Educational and trade union (Stockholm, Sweden, Brussels, Luxembourg, Thailand, Greece)

Other Actions

Takis Gavrielidis was the Organizing Secretary of the Cyprus Center for Studies, KYKEM and also the Organizing Secretary of the Institute of Administrative Sciences. He was elected by the Senate of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) for three consecutive terms on the University Council.

Politics

Takis Gavrielidis was actively involved in politics and was one of the founding members of DIKO TO 1976.  In particular, he was a member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Party, the District Committee of Limassol, Chairman of the Public Relations Committee of DIKO, Chairman of the Education Committee of DIKO and Representative of DIKO in the Education Council of the Ministry of Education and Culture. On December 3, 2013, in a letter to the president of DIKO Nikolas Papadopoulos, he resigned as President of the Education Committee. On February 5, 2018, Takis Gavrielidis along with 11 other officials of DIKO including its former President Marios Karoyan were suspended by the Disciplinary Council.

Along with other suspended persons there was  member of the Steering Committee of the Democratic Faction DIPA, when its establishment was announced. DIPA on June 8, 2022 at a special event of its Political Council honored Takis Gavrielides for his long-term political contribution.
