The company Safe Bulkers, Inc., with CEO Poly V. Chatzioannou, in the context of Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (“ESG”), in collaboration with the Cyprus Maritime Academy/Intercollege, announces the implementation of an annual Deck Officer training scholarship program .

The Safe Bulkers scholarship program is for five (5) annual scholarshipsfor Cypriot or Greek citizens for Deck Officer studies at the Cyprus Naval Academy, amounting to 5,000 Euros each per year. The scholarships are awarded to students to cover the annual tuition fees and living expenses and are renewed on an annual basis with the successful academic progress of the scholarship holder in the following year of study in order to cover all four years of study. selected scholars provides scholarships against tuition fees so that education is provided free of charge.

In its full development with the gradual promotion of students in the following academic years the Company's scholarship program will finance a total of 20 students with a total annual cost of 100,000 Euros. The Company during the course of studies will offer Cadet positions to all fellows on its state-of-the-art, high-speed satellite-connected, Cypriot-flagged ships for their practical training and after graduation full professional rehabilitation leading to the rank of Merchant Marine Master and the prospect of working at the Company's offices in Cyprus.

The Deck Officers Scholarship Program of Safe Bulkersis implemented with the aim of supporting and encouraging more young people to take up maritime professions and develop into competent Deck Officers with significant and lucrative promotion prospects as Captains. As the largest shipowner of the Cypriot registry, Safe Bulkers' pursuit is to cultivate the maritime culture in the new generation and to attract high quality talented young executives to the Cypriot shipping industry, thus helping to strengthen the Cypriot flag with scientifically qualified and specialized manpower. It is recalled that for this purpose Safe Bulkers has simultaneously established from 2021 an annual scholarship program for Cypriot citizens or Greek citizens settled in Cyprus, who wish to pursue a career in the shipping industry.
