The first Maritime Day entitled ''BLUE DAY'' was organized with particular success in the Ayia Napa Marina, which aimed to contribute with new ideas and specific proposals in areas that are inseparable linked to Maritime Tourism, the marine environment as well as safety at sea.

Very interesting lectures presented by academics and experts, Ms. Toula Onoufriou Professor and Director of EMERGE TEPAK Research Center, Prof. Giorgos Oikonomou from KSED, Mr. Zacharias Siokouros CEO – CMMI and Mr. Pavlos Charalambous – IT Manager of Ayia Napa Marina which they gave prestige to the Conference and kept the interest of the participants undiminished.

In the field of Marinas, this can be achieved by upgrading the services of Marine Tourism professionals and yacht owners in the context of Blue Development.< /p>

The day was graced by the presence of the Minister of Energy, Mr. Giorgos Papanastasiou, who, with his substantial interventions on key issues, gave hope that the new government will effectively deal with the issues that concern Maritime Tourism, and especially the Marines who employ thousands of workers. Members of Parliament, the Mayor of Ayia Napa and Municipal Councilors of the local authorities also attended.

In the open discussion moderated by CMMI Director Mr. Zacharias Siokouros and attended by the Minister of Energy Mr. George Papanastasiou, the President of the Trade Committee of the Parliament Mr. Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, Mr. George Mavroudis on behalf of KEBE, the Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Christos Zanettou and the President of the Association of Mariners, Mr. Stavros Karamontanis, all found the need for immediate action by the competent state bodies for the following:

  • Amendment and modernization of the 1977 law concerning the design, construction and operation of Marinas and the inclusion of Marinas under one Ministry.
  • In the establishment of incentives to attract foreign investment.
  • In the diplomatic campaign of the competent Ministry to deal with the illegal actions of the Pseudocrat to legalize Marines in the occupied territories through international Marine Certification Organizations.

After the Conference, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the innovative project of the “smart marina of Ayia Napa” and to watch the preparedness exercise to deal with fire and pollution of the marine environment inside the Marina by its staff and means, which impressed those present.

In a joint statement, the Director of the Ayia Napa Marina Mr. Costas Fitiris and the Managing Director Mr. Stavros Karamontanis pointed out that the Ayia Napa Marina can be the hub of the Blue Development of the Free Famagusta area. This can be achieved with the synergy of the Public and the private sector and with the understanding that the Public sector will be the core of this effort, which of course will also give impetus to this area that needs enrichment of the tourist product with infrastructure and services. However, this issue needs thorough study and perhaps another conference should be organized with this unique topic.
