The Limassol-Amathus Sewerage Council (SALA) decided to gradually increase the sewage usage fees imposed on the relevant water consumption, so that they are sufficient to cover its current expenses/obligations. In this direction, yesterday in the Parliament were submitted for voting amending regulations which determine, on the one hand, the maximum limits of the fees that can be imposed by SALA until 2026 and on the other hand, the additional charges that will be imposed on the owners or holders of the premises. fail to pay the fees for the use of the sewer within the stipulated payment deadline. The amending regulations were approved by the Council of Ministers on 3/3/2022 and were submitted yesterday in Parliament for a vote by the Minister of Interior Mr. Nikos Nouris.
Increases per year
Specifically, the amending regulations stipulate that the ceiling of the sewerage fee that the SALA may impose will not exceed:
- 0 , 66 of the euro cents for each cubic meter of water consumed until 31 December 2022.
- 0.68 of the euro cents for each cubic meter of water consumed until 31 December 2023.
- 0.70 euro cents for each cubic meter of water consumed until 31 December 2024.
- 0.72 euro cents for each cubic meter of water consumed until 31 December 2025.
- 0.74 euro cents for each cubic meter of water consumed until 31 December 2026.

Additional charges
The amending regulations also provide for the following:
1 In case the owner or holder of a property who is obliged to pay a usage fee has not made the payment of the amount due within the stipulated payment deadline, he will be charged with an amount equal to five percent (5%) in the case of payment of the said within four months after the expiration of the prescribed payment period and equal to fifteen percent (15%) in the case of payment of the amount due after the expiry of four months from the expiry of the prescribed payment period.
2 In the event that part of the amount due and an additional charge equal to five percent (5%) on it have been paid within the period of four months after the expiration of the prescribed payment period, the additional charge on the unpaid amount will be fifteen percent (15%) on the difference between the amount originally due and the amount paid within that period.
3 At the end of the amending regulations there is a reservation which gives the right to SALA to impose an additional charge of 10% on the amount owed. In particular, the following is provided: “Irrespective of the provisions of paragraph (1), in the event that a person owes the fee charged for the use of sewage systems and this is not paid within the prescribed payment period, the additional charge is equal to ten percent (10%) of the amount due for the corresponding period for which the fee was imposed. “
