“Today is a special day for the creation and operation of the international regional organization East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), which is now taking shape after the adoption of its statutes and the ratification of the relevant law by five from the founding members and the holding of the first most official meeting after the statute came into force on March 1, 2021 “, said the Minister of Energy Natasa Peleidou in Cairo.
Ms. Pileidou, who made statements after the completion of the first official Ministerial Meeting of the member countries of the SE Mediterranean Forum for Natural Gas, which took place in the capital of Egypt, expressed her satisfaction with the results of the Ministerial Meeting. .
“Today, we had a very productive meeting with all the countries that are the founding members of the Organization, and the seven that participated either online or in person,” he said.
As he stated, “we have taken some decisions, including a very important decision for Cyprus, that from January 1, 2022 it will be the country that will chair this organization after the completion of the procedures that will continue to be handled by Egypt. until the end of the year “.
The Minister of Energy also referred to the decisions for various other initiatives, such as the long-term strategy, but also initiatives for sustainable development and environmental protection, for the reduction of pollution from ships and for the main object of the Forum, which is the optimal utilization of natural gas by the countries of the region.
At the same time, he characterized “it is very important that today the inclusion of France as a full member of the EMGF was approved, as well as the participation of the USA as an observer”.
Ms. Pileidou stressed, finally, that “also, the message was given that we are very positive in the participation of other countries, it is of course enough to share and share the same values and to follow the international law and the foundations on which it is built the organization”.
