Second arrest in connection with shootings on New Year's Day in Paphos

Paphos Police made a second arrest in relation to the case of malicious damage and shootings on New Year's Day in Paphos.

According to Pafos police director Nikos Tsapis, this is a 27-year-old man who was arrested on Friday, while a 24-year-old man is already under five-day detention. 

According to the Police on Monday 2.1.23  it was reported by a 28-year-old permanent resident of Cyprus that on New Year's Day, around 04:30 in the morning, while he was having fun in a recreation center in Paphos with two friends, he received a phone call from a person he knows, who asked him to meet at a certain point in the city of Paphos to discuss their private dispute.

When the 28-year-old went there with his two friends, he met the person in question and during their conversation he heard a gunshot. Then the person who asked for the appointment left the place with his car, while the complainant heard two more shots. He later found that one of the shots had struck his car in the rear left wing.

After further investigation the Police secured testimony against two individuals aged 24 and 27 and warrants were issued against them and they were arrested. .

The offenses they face are conspiracy to commit a felony and misdemeanor, illegal possession and transportation of hunting rifles and explosives, malicious damage and shooting in a residential area and carrying a weapon to incite terror. The exams are continuing from the TAE Paphos.
