The appointments to DEFA and THOK have been officially announced

The CVs of the three persons appointed on Friday by the Council of Ministers to the position of President and member of the Public Natural Gas Company (DEFA), as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Theater Organization (THOK), were made public by the Government.

This is the CV of Giorgos Asiikalis, who was appointed to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of DEFA, of Konstantinos Danos who was appointed to the position of member of the Board of Directors of DEFA and Andreas Appios, who was appointed to the position of of the member of the Board of Directors of THOK.

Giorgos Asiikalis

Giorgos Asiikalis has 39 years of experience at the Cyprus Electricity Authority and the Cyprus Transmission System Operator, with the main subject of his professional employment being the Supervisory Control Systems of the Electricity System, the management of Labor Relations and the Human Resources Department at the Electricity Authority and its Operations Department of the Electricity Transmission System to the Cyprus Transmission System Operator.

His academic qualifications include a BSc(Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester (1980), a PGCert in Engineering Management with a specialization in Project Management from the Joint Board for Engineering Management – UK (1987), an MSc in Business Administration – MBA from CIIM (1997) and MSc in Labor Relations and Personnel Management from London School of Economics (1998).

He holds the professional titles Chartered Engineer, Chartered Manager, Chartered Fellow CIPD, MCMI, MIET and Eur Ing. He holds a 1st Class Electrical Engineering Certificate from the Electromechanical Service. He is also an Honorary Member and Fellow of the Cyprus Human Resources Management Association.

He has extensive experience in the European Social Dialogue, as a member of the Electricity Industry Employers group (Expert Advisor) in the meetings with the European Commission and the Trade Union Federations of European Workers.

He was also a member of the Labor Consultative Body, while he has participated in the 88th Session of the International Labor Organization in Geneva (ILO Convention) as an Adviser to the Federation of Employers and Industrialists.

In addition, he was a member of the System Operation Committee of the European Network of Electricity Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E), Assoc. Member of the General Assembly of ENTSO-E, Rep. Member of the General Assembly of the Mediterranean Electricity Transmission System Operators (Med-TSO), Coordinator of the ENTSO-E Regional Isolated Electricity Networks Group, Member of the Working Group of Economic Studies and Scenarios of the Mediterranean Electricity Transmission System Operators and Member of the Working Group for the Preparation of Regulations of of Mediterranean Electricity Transmission System Operators.

He was also a member of the Membership Registration Committee, Chairman of the Continuing Education Committee and Chairman of the Legislation Review, Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning Committee of ETEK. Also, Vice-President of the Cyprus Association of Human Resources Management, Member of the IEE Committee (Cyprus Centre) and Vice-President of the Parents' Association of the English School.

Konstantinos Danos

Konstantinos Danou's academic qualifications include MSc Petroleum Engineering from Heriot Watt Universitz, Edinburgh, UK and BSc Chemical Engineering from Ariyona State Universitz, Tempe, USA.

He is a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers of the United Kingdom.

He served CyPRES Energy ltd from 2020 to 2023 as CEO, Tullow Oil plc from 2010 to 2020 as Reservoir Engineer and at Centrica Energy ltd from 2005 to 2010 as a Petroleum and Process Engineer.

He also served on Boards of Directors of Public Law Legal Entities (n.p.d.d,), Council of Independent Authority and other Boards whose members are appointed by the n.p.d. Council of Ministers. and Independent Authorities.

Involved in many hydrocarbon development studies, focusing on technical analysis and project management.

Significant contributions to projects such as Seven Seas in the North Sea ($60m) South Lokichar in Kenya ($1.5bn) natural gas in Ghana ($450m) and North Sea compression train upgrade ($6m).

Personal project management including budget and schedule such as H2S heat exchanger construction ($650OOO) and multiphase pump studies in Ghana ($50OOO-$1OOOOO).

Having 20 years experience in global petroleum exploration and development and gas participated in various projects such as field development exploration in all environments and production.

Skills include definition of development programs, subsurface data analysis and technical recommendations.

The versatility of his career from chemical engineer to petroleum engineer allowed for experience in many areas such as process engineering, geology, facility finance and project management, he added.

Andreas Appios

Andreas Appios studied Visual Communications (BSc Visual Communications) at Long Island University, New York, from where he graduated in 1989.

On his return to Cyprus, he worked as an Art Director in an advertising company and in he then began teaching in the Department of Graphic Design, Frederick Institute of Technology until 1998.

With over three decades of experience in the industry, he “has a deep understanding of both the creative and communication aspects of the profession.” He collaborated with major commercial brands and cultural institutions.

Today he is the General Manager and owner of the creative office “appios creative studio”.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Advertising – Communication Association ( SDEK) and co-organizer of the Cyprus Optical Communication Panorama.
