Series of trainings by the Ministry of Education for the educational material of special education

The first of a series of trainings was carried out today by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN), at the Pedagogical Institute, in Nicosia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, in collaboration with the Institute of Educational Policy of Greece (IEP), regarding the utilization of the material created by the IEP for Special Education and which is available at the link: https://prosvasimo.iep.edu.gr/el/.

As stated in an announcement by the Ministry of Defense, the said training will be repeated on the following days, Thursday and Friday (June 6-7) in the provinces of Limassol and Larnaca respectively.                                 

Today's training, notes the announcement, was attended by the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athina Michailidou, who referred to the importance of informing teachers, as differentiated teaching is a key priority of the Ministry and part of the effort to transition from Special to Unified Education and the formation of the inclusive school.

On behalf of the Institute of Education, the Head of the Department of Educational Innovation and Special and Inclusive Education, Piliouras Panagiotis, attended, who the start of the training, informed the teachers about the work of the IEP.  

Then followed the central presentation on “Accessible educational material for the differentiation of teaching in the context of special and inclusive education” during which part of the educational material posted on the relevant platform of the IEP was presented.

This was followed by three parallel sessions by the Councilors of the Institute of Education Policy, Eleni Hantzoulis, Maria Gelastopoulou and Anna Afentoulidou, which were addressed to Primary Education teachers of grades 1-3, Special Education and Secondary teachers Education respectively.

It is reported that in these sessions, “inclusive differentiated strategies and good practices emerged, adapted to the needs of each audience”. Through the interaction with the material an interesting discussion was provoked and avenues were created for the utilization of said material in the Cypriot school.
