Four renovated and upgraded sports fields were officially added from Friday to the infrastructure of the Municipality of Paphos for mass outdoor sports.
They were inaugurated on Friday afternoon by the Chairman of the Board of the Cyprus Sports Organization, Andreas Michaelidis, and the Mayor of Paphos, Phaidonas Phaidonos. The entire project, the total cost of which amounted to €300,000, was implemented by the Municipality of Paphos with a grant from the CMO of €200,000, through the grant plan for social/mass sports projects.
In his greeting as part of the opening ceremony held at the OPAP Municipal Park, the Mayor, Phaidonas Phaidonos, pointed out that in the last 8 years Paphos has been transformed through a huge effort and continues to transform into a modern city and a key parameter of a modern city is the quality of life of its inhabitants.
He stated that one of the factors that shape the quality of life is the provision of opportunities and opportunities for sports to citizens of all age groups in public spaces, easily accessible and properly equipped.

With this reasoning, he emphasized, the Municipality of Paphos considers the creation of infrastructure for the development of Social – Mass Sports not as a supplement but as a pillar of the modern city it is creating. With the projects we are inaugurating today, we are taking a significant step but we have a long way to go, said the Mayor of Paphos.
Addressing the President of the KOM, he thanked him warmly for the important contribution of the Organization and his own his personal support in the implementation of the projects that today were officially handed over to the society of Paphos.
He added that “because I believe that progress is built on the truth and the establishment of realities, I want to point out that sports must be reduced to a priority of our State through a strategy that will move stagnant waters and put aside established interests and sick attitudes”.
Society, he continued, needs and seeks projects and actions that will have an effect in all its spectrum. Sports must be organically linked with education and local government and this is the responsibility of the state through the Cyprus Sports Organization or another mechanism that will be introduced, he added.
In his own greeting, the President of the KOM Andreas Michaelidis, after expressing his certainty that the projects in question will breathe life into sports in Paphos, referred to the importance of specific infrastructures for increasing the choices of quality and safe sports for the residents of Paphos, young and old.
At the Cyprus Sports Organization, he said, we considered it “our self-evident obligation to help so that these sports venues get the shape they deserve”. here and to inaugurate these ornaments for Paphos”, adding that as the President of the Supreme Sports Authority of the place he is especially happy every time the Organization does its duty.
In the context of the inauguration sports games and demonstrations were held in the four fields with the participation of athletes from the city's clubs.
