On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, the contract for Section 1 of the project on “Supply, installation and operation of infrastructure and smart city systems” was signed between the Municipality of Nicosia and Logicom Solutions, in the framework of the implementation of the Integrated Smart City Strategy 2018-2028, of the Municipality of Nicosia.
Logicom Solutions will undertake the supply, installation, operation and support of the Wireless Access Networks, the Sensor Networks and the Fiber Optic Network Infrastructures of the Municipality.
During the signing ceremony, the Mayor of Nicosia, Mr. Konstantinos Giorkatzis, in his greeting, analyzed the benefits of the project, noting that the capital is the first city that through its digital transformation, will offer better services to its citizens, will manage with much better the available resources and with less impact on the environment.
In his speech at the signing of the agreement, Mr. Chrysostomos Kritiotis, CEO of Logicom Solutions underlined that Logicom Solutions, together with CISCO, based on their know-how and many years of experience, will lay a solid foundation on which to build the smart city of Nicosia, a more modern, efficient and sustainable city. With the implementation of modern infrastructures such as structured networks, fiber optic networks, LORAWAN and Wi-Fi, the possibility will be given for the easiest and most constructive involvement and participation of the citizens in the events of the Municipality.
The duration of the project is expected to be 36 months with the first infrastructure and smart city systems becoming available within 2021.
The project will be co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Republic of Cyprus and the Municipality of Nicosia.
