Instructions for immediate recording of the fire damage that occurred on Saturday in Tala were given by the Minister of Interior Nikos Nouris, according to the District of Paphos Mary Lambrou.

According to the Paphos District Governor Mary Lambrou, a group of technical services officers of the Paphos District Office starts this morning the detailed recording and assessment of damage to buildings and premises based on the instructions given by the Minister of Interior.

A similar record is expected to be made from tomorrow by officials of the Department of Agriculture for the damage caused to crops.

Meanwhile, in a written statement, the Spokesman of the Cyprus Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, stated that the efforts of the firefighters yesterday to extinguish the fire in Tala, Paphos District, were painful. Mr. Kettis made recommendations for deforestation.

Preliminary examinations estimate that the fire allegedly broke out when they fell to the ground, causing the fire. The cables due to the strong winds that prevailed in the area allegedly touched each other.

The fire became manageable around 20:00 on Saturday night and engulfed wild vegetation, as well as vehicles and houses, according to the Spokesperson of the Cyprus Fire Service Andreas Kettis. Mr. Kettis stated that the fire burned a total area of about 2 square kilometers of dry grass, wild vegetation and a large number of trees.

In addition, he said, a number of houses in the Kamares area of the village of Tala were damaged while in at least two houses the fire penetrated inside. Mr. Kettis also stated that electricity pylons were affected. The fire brigade, he said, continued with final extinguishing and complete demarcation of the fire, while, as he said, they worked throughout the night.

The fire broke out shortly before 15:00 in the afternoon and the Cyprus Fire Service implemented the Ikaros 2 plan, with seven aircraft, including two helicopters rented by the Republic and three Forest Department aircraft, while these were reinforced with more 2 helicopters from the British Bases, increasing the number of aerial through to nine. According to Mr. Kettis, eight fire trucks from the fire stations of Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and EMAK also assisted in extinguishing the fire.
