Spechar discusses Cyprus issue, informal pentamer and vaccines with Turkish Cypriot parties

The Cyprus issue, the informal five-day meeting and the vaccinations against COVID-19 were at the center of online discussions held by the UN Secretary General's Special Representative in Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, with Turkish Cypriot parties.

Specifically, Ms. Spehar discussed with the leader of the Democratic Party Fikri Ataoglou, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the party, Mustafa Arabatsioglou and his head in Nicosia, Salih Tseliker, about the informal meeting in the on coronavirus vaccination applied by the EU and the UN against T / Cs.

The delegation briefed Ms. Spehar on the Democratic Party's stance on the informal pentagon. Mr. Ataoglu told the UN official that the Democratic Party is ready to contribute if the informal meeting between the two sides takes place on an equal footing and that if it fails then the Turkish Cypriots will continue on their way as one of the two equal parts.

He also told Ms. Spehar that they are ready to contribute to the negotiation process that will begin if the informal meeting is completed successfully.

Regarding the vaccines, he said that what was received by the EU through the “e / k administration” in his expression, as he called the Republic of Cyprus, is very little compared to the population in the occupied territories and the number that the Republic of Cyprus has received.

In addition, Ms. Spehar discussed online with the leader and “MP” of the Community Democratic Party (TDP), Cemal γιzgiγit, and the “MP” of the party, Zeki Zeller, about the Cyprus issue, the informal meeting and the issue of vaccines.

According to an announcement by the Community Democracy Party, Ms. Spehar was informed that the party's position on the Cyprus issue and the informal five-party system is clear and that for this the most realistic solution in Cyprus is the federation.

The party also expressed the position that the negotiations should start on the basis of the text that emerged from the meeting of November 2019 in Berlin, the document of February 11 and the Guterres framework. As far as Varosha is concerned, the party's position expressed to Ms. Spehar is that steps must be taken on the basis of international law that will contribute to a comprehensive solution.

The Community Democracy Party also mentioned the importance of confidence-building measures. He noted that the Turkish Cypriots clearly showed their support for a solution through the Annan plan and the Crans Montana process, and that the international community must have an approach that takes into account “these realities”.

The party also said that the quantities of vaccines given to the Turkish Cypriot side should be increased. It was also pointed out to Ms. Spehar that efforts should be intensified so that the Turkish Cypriot community can benefit from the financial resources that the EU and the rest of the international community provide to countries affected by the pandemic.
